Training Day at the CIFEA in Lorca to raise awareness of Adespolorca’s activities.
The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, has renewed the Collaboration Agreement that has been in place since 2007 with the Agrupación de Defensa Sanitaria (ADESPOLORCA) to carry out a Training and Technology Transfer Programme for the development of the “Chato Murciano” native pig breed at the facilities of the Centro Integrado de Formación y Experiencias Agrarias (CIFEA de Lorca).
Both the Regional Administration of the CARM and ADESPOLORCA, aware that the “Chato Murciano” native pig breed, due to its census and implantation, is in a regressive situation or in danger of disappearing, have carried out different programmes and actions to protect it.
Within the framework of the aforementioned Collaboration Agreement Programme, ADESPOLORCA and the CIFEA of Lorca have organised a Training Day for teachers and students of the CIFEA, so that they can learn first-hand about the meaning of this collaboration, for the benefit of the Chato Murciano native pig breed and the work carried out by ADESPOLORCA in the pig breed sector in general in Lorca. ADESPOLORCA’s managers, the President Mr. Francisco Román Quiñonero, the Director and two technicians from the Centre attended the event.
The representatives of ADESPOLORCA reported that they currently have 700 associated breeders who manage 2,500 farms with a total of 40,000 womb mothers. As for the Artificial Insemination Centre, they described the existing breeds and lines, total capacity and current census.
Another of the aspects discussed at the conference was the vital importance of biosecurity in an artificial insemination centre in order to guarantee high boar production and to obtain seminal doses with the maximum health guarantee. The sanitary infrastructure of the insemination centre, the management plan together with the training of the workers and the sanitary control of the animals form the fundamental pillars of the biosecurity plan.
Finally, a broad topic such as seminal analysis was discussed, explaining in a very practical way through images how it is carried out in the laboratories.
The CIFEA teachers and students showed great interest in biosecurity and hygiene issues, asking questions at the end of the session.
